Police issue warning ahead of Bonfire Night
Rutherglen Police are urging people to stay safe this Bonfire Night (tonight, November 5)
The police role is to keep people safe, and whilst they encourage all to enjoy bonfire night, they have important messages and information.
There are also some additional tips which should keep everyone safe:
Attend an organised and professional fireworks event
Keep a safe distance from privately assembled bonfires
If using your own fireworks, please ensure a responsible adult is present
Do not throw fireworks at any person or animals
Ensure all safety instructions are followed
To provide residents with extra reassurance, Rutherglen Police will have measures in place to combat any anti social behaviour or disorder during the Bonfire Night period. There will be:
An increased high visibility presence of local officers
Plain clothes police officers on duty
Visits to local pubs and clubs to ensure safety
Further additional officers on duty
Partnership working with Scottish Fire and Rescue and SLC to combat dangerous or illegal bonfires being built
Licensed premises checks and test purchases of fireworks to ensure underage persons are not being sold fireworks
Officers will be taking positive action to deal with any anti-social behaviour or disorder, using their powers of arrest or giving on the spot fines where appropriate.
Anyone who needs to report anti-social behaviour can contact Rutherglen Police or Fire Service by calling 101 in a non emergency or 999 in an emergency.
Anyone with information about shops that may be selling alcohol or fireworks to young people can contact Trading Standards at South Lanarkshire Council or Police on 101.
