Firm reveal Cambus Court proposal

- Kenny Smith

The new owners of the Cambus Court Hotel site have this week exclusively revealed their plans to the Reformer.

Last week we reported that the site was sold by the previous owners, East Kilbride-based firm PVP, on October 11 to Hamilton-based Apsis Solutions.

The sale came just four months after South Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee granted PVP permission to build 20 apartments on the site of the Cambus Court, which was demolished last year after being badly damaged in a 2011 fire.

Apsis have now lodged plans with South Lanarkshire Council for 18 flats on the site.

Burnside man Graham McNeil, a director of Apsis, said: “The site had previously achieved a planning consent for more flats via the previous owner - 20 flats - but what we have opted to do is to reduce the number of apartments, but made the apartments themselves slightly bigger in light of the more traditional architecture that surrounds the site on Buchanan Drive and Central Avenue itself, i.e. traditional proportions internally to dovetail with the more traditional fenestration externally.

“There will also be allocated private parking and lovely ground level gardens and patios.

“Apartments will come in larger than average two-bed en-suite and three-bed en-suite ‘styles’ given the likely demand dynamics locally. We are thinking of clients looking for good proportioned apartments moving from larger stone built semi-detached and detached home.”

Apsis hope to have flats ready by the end of next year, with PVP having previously said they hoped to start work on the site this autumn.

Graham added: “We will be calling the site Sycamore Gardens given the number of perfectly healthy sycamore specimen trees on the site that we intend building our landscaping plan and strategy around.

“It is very rare to be in a position, as developers, to strike the right balance between development density, private and communal open space and car parking but we are of the firm view that Sycamore Gardens will meet with widespread appeal given the site’s unique, one might say tranquil, setting.

“We are looking to commence construction works early next year and welcome our first clients into their new apartments around Christmas 2015 and spring 2016.”
