Remembering the fallen

-

The Scripture tells us that Jesus healed 10 lepers, nine took it for granted, and one came back to thank the Lord Jesus.

That’s not the sort of 10th the Lord is looking for from His people! I would suggest He wants the heartfelt thanks of all His creations - what does the Scripture say?

“Give thanks unto the Lord always.”

That is length of time spent, and the quality of the thanks. The Lords looks into the reasons we give thanks for what He is doing in our lives. He is seeking worshipers, those who priase and raise thanks to the heavens. He wants to hear us speak well of Himself, He wants us to spread abroad the wonders of His name. Are we telling others all about God’s goodness to us as His children?

In the Scripture, we read about the invitation to a wedding feast, how nice to be invited we say, but what happened? They who were invited all began to make up excuses for not going to the wedding. What rudeness on their part!

All things provided by the host, yet all refusing to accept, and give visual thanks to the host by being at the do. Are we spurning God’s invitation to the wedding feast in heaven itself?

The marriage of the Lamb is the occasion, all who accept the invitation have been provided with robes of white, through the price paid by the host’s son at His full compliance to His father’s will.

He, the Lord Jesus, died at Calvary to pay for our clothing at the marriage fest. We stand in the presence of the most High through the total obedience of the Son to the demands of a Holy God for the price of our sins’ punishment. The Scripture says “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.”

Make sure you do not reject God’s offer of salvation, don’t try to earn your forgiveness of your sins by your own works. He has fully paid the price, it’s God’s free gift to all who accept it.

By the way the invitation went to all quarters of the area, by the hedges and byways, no place too far not to receive the call.

Think of the messengers, carries of the good news of the father’s love, at the feast above we are told that there will be people of every tribe and nation. What a provider is our God. How will they hear except we go to them? Have you prayed lately for the work in other lands? How important to bring all to the throne of grace.

Let us once more give thanks fo the father for His unspeakable gift. Praise and thanks to him. Major Mike Watkins, The Salvation Army. Young people from uniformed organisations across the area will pay their own tributes to the area’s war dead this weekend.

On the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I, people will come together to remember the fallen at various churches and war memorials throughout the area.

The imporance of remembering the sacrifice of our forefathers is especially imporant to the uniformed organisations in the area, including the Scouts, Guides, Boy’s Brigade and Girl’s Brigade.

At Burnside Blairbeth Church, the names of those who gave their lives are read out during their service on Sunday morning.

All the youth organisations from Cambuslang Parish Church have been finding out about one person behind the name on their war memorials.

They are going to read out some of the information they have learned this Sunday, together with some photos of the brave soldiers who gave their lives for their country during the conflicts.
