Glens crash out of cup

Glencairn .............. 2 Culter .................... 3

Glencairn crashed out the Scottish Cup at home to 10-man Culter thanks to two goals in the last six minutes.

The Rutherglen men looked on course for the next round as they entered the final stage of the game, but they let the lead slip as Culter fought back.

JC Hutchison returned in goal for Glens while last week’s goalscorer, Ross Ballantyne started.

The home side were in front after just seven minutes, Thomas Kilmartin heading into the net at the back post from Sean McGuire’s cross

Culter didn’t buckle though, and a period of pressure resulted in an equaliser in the 22nd minute. Jamie Cromar fed Andy Sim on the wing, and he crossed from the bye line into the path of Mickey Taylor who applied the finish from close range.

The match swung back towards the home side as the half time whistle approached, and it looked like The Glens were about to take a grip on the match.

Culter were reduced to 10 men in the 39th minute when defender Adam Wilson was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Ballantyne.

Three minutes later Glencairn were back in front as Ross Ballantyne applied the finish to Jordan Dalzell’s cross to score against Culter for the second week in a row.

The second half swung from end to end. Ballantyne spurned the best chance for Glens when his lob fell just over the crossbar.

Glens looked comfortable, but with just six minutes left Andy Neil sliced Cromar’s free-kick into his own net and the sides were level.

And three minutes later, the visitors won it when Cromar fired home a dipping free-kick, beating Hutchison.
