Rutherglen Reformer

Date is all set for heritage society’s AGM

- Staff reporter

The annual general meeting of Rutherglen Heritage Society will be held in Rutherglen Library later this month.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, November 27, at 6pm.

Rutherglen Heritage Society has been involved in a project to identify and record the remaining boundary, or “march”, stones in Rutherglen.

The stones were originally erected round the Royalty boundary of the Burgh to mark the territory and maintain its identity.

Last year, the society erected a stone in Glasgow Road beside the M74 motorway, to replace a stone which had disappeared during the motorway construction.

A report of the progress made and plans for the future projects of the stones and other heritage projects will be discussed at the annual general meeting.

The meeting is open to all who are interested in preserving Rutherglen’s heritage.
