Queen tribute show promises to “rock you!”

- Shirley Bartynek

The supreme tribute Queen concert show that’s rocking the nation is set to hit Lanark Memorial Hall on Friday, November 21.

Forty years ago Freddie Mercury and his band Queen had begun the year gigging at relatively obscure venues like the Greyhound pub in Croydon, the Paddocks in Canvey Island and the Winter Gardens, Cleethorpes. It was a far cry from their legendary live show of 1986 at Wembley Stadium.

Their live set only occasionally included the song Seven Seas of Rhye – their first hit single – and their first hit album, Queen II, was set for release.

However, all that was about to change.

The year 1974 saw the quartet of musicians achieve superstardom.

Their third album Sheer Heart Attack and, Killer Queen, the hit single taken from album, were released that year and established the group as bona fide pop stars.

But throughout Queen’s illustrious career, even during their relatively low-key winter tour, their incredible live performances marked them out as more than just another pop band.

Recreating the excitement and drama of Queen’s legendary live shows, hit touring stage spectacular Champions of Rock is coming to Lanarkshire.

Recreating the fun, the musicianship and the showmanship of Queen’s legendary live performances, audiences are invited on a musical journey through the decades.

Fans of the band can’t miss the UK’s authoritative Queen concert act celebrating 40 years of hits with their nationwide tour.

“Champions of Rock combines superb musicianship with audacious stage antics,” ” says the show’s producer Michael Taylor.

And he added: “Watch out music fans – it will rock your world!”

Champions of Rock bills itself as “a crazy big thing, a scintillating night out” and promises to entertain, exhilarate and regally rock you till you drop.

The show, which will be performed at Lanark Memorial Hall, St Leonard Street, Lanark, will start at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £17.50 and are available by calling the box office on 01555 667 999.
