Pantomime promises a magic carpet ride of fun
It’s that time of year again — oh yes it is!
Hamilton Town House and Rutherglen Town Hall will be playing host to a top pantomime throughout the month of December, promising the usual amount of laughs, songs and ‘he’s behind you’ moments.
This year’s performance is Aladdin, following on from previous pantos like Sleeping Beauty that have been a hit with Lanarkshire crowds. This year’s production will star former Britain’s Got Talent star and columnist Edward Reid as Widow Twankey.
This brand new version of the popular tale takes to the streets of Rutherglingking (just next to Peking) in a magical mystical adventure for boys and girls of all ages. The evil sorcerer Abanazzer is up to no good, and he’s vying for the hand of the beautiful Princess Jasmine in marriage.
He’ll stop at nothing, not even the dark arts of black magic, to claim her as his prize!
It’s up to our brave hero Aladdin to try and save the day by spoiling the sorcerer’s schemes.
Luckily he’s going to be getting a little help (sort of ) from Widow Twankey and Wishee Washee at Twankey’s laundrette.
And there may just be a wee Genie on hand to add even more magic to the fun. Will Abanazzer’s evil plan succeed? Can Aladdin win the heart of the beautiful princess Jasmine?
And will Widow Twankey get her good knickers clean in time for the finale?
The answers can be found by checking out Aladdin over the next month as it arrives in both Hamilton and Rutherglen.
It starts in the Town House this Friday (December 5) and runs there through until next Wednesday (December 10).
Then Aladdin takes his magic carpet off to Rutherglen Town Hall, where he’ll be staying from Saturday December 13 through until Tuesday December 23.
Tickets for the Hamilton shows are priced at £13.50 / £11.50 and can bought by calling 01698 452299 or visiting the venue in person. For Rutherglen, tickets, priced £11.50 / £10.00 can be booked by calling 0141 613 5700 or by stopping off at the Town Hall.
