Royaly Burgh lit up for Christmas
Two page picture special from the lights switch-on
Christmas time officially arrived in Rutherglen and Cambuslang at the weekend with the annual light switch- on events.
Both events were packed, with the respective Main Streets being transformed into winter wonderlands.
Rutherglen was first to welcome the festive season on Saturday. The crowd were entertained by the Christmas Chartbuster show who performed pop hits as well as some well-known Christmas numbers. Landemer Queen Lucy Carr was joined onstage by Santa Claus himself, as well as Provost Eileen Logan, to flick the switch and turn on the lights.
The Chartbusters were back in Cambuslang the next day to keep the crowd warm before Provost Logan turned on the lights.
Both events were hosted by radio DJ, Gina McKie.
Among the revellers was James Kelly MSP, who said: “It was great to see good crowds turning out for the Rutherglen and Cambuslang Christmas lights switch ons. People entered into the spirit of the events and this created a festive atmosphere.”
Residents also gave the events the thumbs-up on our social media pages.

This week we’ve got pictures from the Rutherglen event. Look out next week when we’ll have more great snaps from Cambuslang.
