Ru t h e r g l e n Po l i c e a re appealing for witnesses after a man was spotted roaming around a church roof this week.

Police were called to St Mark’s Church on Fernhill Road in Rutherglen at around 2.30am on Monday morning.

A man was spotted walking around the roof of the church. He is described as aged 20 to 25-years-old, dressed all in black. He fled the scene in an unknown direction before police arrived

Constable Richard Samson of Rutherglen Police said: “We believe that he was trying to remove metal from the roof, perhaps lead. Anyone who has any informatio­n can contact us on 101.” Rutherglen’s MP and MSP are holding a special joint surgery this week.

Labour pair James Kelly and Tom Greatrex will be in the Rutherglen Exchange shopping centre this Friday, December 19, at 2pm.

They will be there till 3.30pm and anyone can approach them to raise any concerns or local issues with them.
