Death of Roy Pohler (81)

A well-known Cam­bus­lang taxi driver has passed away.

Roy Pohler was 81 when he died, just months after mark­ing his di­a­mond wed­ding an­niver­say with wife Jean.

Roy and Jean (81) marked their 60 years of mar­riage with a fam­ily cel­e­bra­tion.

They were joined by their five chil­dren, 14 grand­chil­dren and one great grand­child.

The cou­ple met when they were work­ing in Men­zies in Glas­gow Cen­tral Sta­tion and were mar­ried in Giffnock in 1953, at the Tu­dor Ball­room.

They lived for many years in Pri­ory Bridge in Blan­tyre, be­fore mov­ing to Cam­bus­lang 26 years ago.

Roy, orig­i­nally from Bankhead and a for­mer pupil of Bankhead Pri­mary and Ruther­glen Academy, was well-known as a lo­cal taxi driver in the area for 20 years, and also worked for R S McColl, Glas­gow Cor­po­ra­tion Buses, and at Walls, and Jean worked as a demonstrator for Walls.
