Death of Roy Pohler (81)

A well-known Cambuslang taxi driver has passed away.

Roy Pohler was 81 when he died, just months after marking his diamond wedding anniversay with wife Jean.

Roy and Jean (81) marked their 60 years of marriage with a family celebratio­n.

They were joined by their five children, 14 grandchild­ren and one great grandchild.

The couple met when they were working in Menzies in Glasgow Central Station and were married in Giffnock in 1953, at the Tudor Ballroom.

They lived for many years in Priory Bridge in Blantyre, before moving to Cambuslang 26 years ago.

Roy, originally from Bankhead and a former pupil of Bankhead Primary and Rutherglen Academy, was well-known as a local taxi driver in the area for 20 years, and also worked for R S McColl, Glasgow Corporatio­n Buses, and at Walls, and Jean worked as a demonstrat­or for Walls.
