Sign up for free safety service

-

Rutherglen residents are being urged to sign up to a new messaging service aimed at keeping locals up to date with events around their community.

Safer Rutherglen is the community messaging system supported by Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, South Lanarkshire Council and Neighbourhood Watch Scotland.

People can register free with the service online and receive alerts giving out information.

Anyone who uses the service is in charge of how, when and what messages are sent to them. Alerts are sent by email and text message and can also be delivered by recorded or automated voice through landline or mobile telephones.

By signing in to their account, created at the website, they can choose what method of delivery is used for an alert depending on what time of day it is. The initiative gives residents information messages on local crime, antisocial behaviour, fire- related incidents, news, appeals and community safety advice will be sent directly to people by email, text or recorded phone message.
