Nominations wanted for sports awards
Cambuslang and Rutherglen Sports Council have this week launched their annual sports performer and team of the year awards for successes in 2014.
And they are asking Reformer readers to help by nominating talented sports individuals and clubs for consideration for this year’s awards.
Candidates who have made notable sporting achievements during the year are eligible for nomination in the various categories.
This year’s categories will include the following:
Adult Sports Performer of the Year (Male); Adult Sports Performer of the Year (Female); Adult Sports Performer of the Year (Senior); Junior Sports Performer of the Year (Male); Junior Sports Performer of the Year (Female); Senior Team of the Year; Junior Team of the Year; Coach of the Year; and Services to Sport Award.
Sports council chair Liz Arbuckle said: “The sports performer awards are a chance for people in the Cambuslang and Rutherglen areas to have their performances and achievements recognised at a local level.
“There are a lot of sports people in the town who put in a lot of hard work, for little or no reward, and we like to recognise and acknowledge what they have done for their sport.
“Over the years we’ve had winners representing a variety of sports, which goes to show the depth and variety of the talent we have here.”
Readers who know of individuals who have won sports titles or silver and bronze medals at West of Scotland, national, United Kingdom or at international level should nominate appropriate individuals.
In addition, residents of the area who have gained international honours during the year 2013 should be nominated for consideration in the various categories.
In addition to the individual and team performance awards, the sports council would like nominations for coaches who have contributed to the success of talented sports performers and individuals who have spent over 25 years in an active role within a sports club environment.
Cambuslang Rugby Club captain James McLaren was named Cambuslang and Rutherglen Sports Council’s top adult sports performer for achievements in 2013.
