The spirit of Christmas
Fernhill School got into the Christmas spirit before they started the festive break.
Parents and other relatives were entertained by the nursery and infant classes at Fernhill when they performed their own version of the Christmas nativity, Little Angel Gets Her Wings.
The pupils took the audience on a journey from Rutherglen to Bethlehem, helped along by some shepherds, kings and angels. When they finally reached Bethlehem to greet the baby Jesus, the little angel was given the wings she had longed for throughout her journey because she had shown love to several animals along the way.
Depute head teacher Marie O’Neil, responsible for the nursery and primary, said: “The nativity play is a regular feature in the school’s Christmas preparations and it is loved by both pupils and parents alike. The children sang and performed beautifully, making both their teachers and family members extremely proud indeed.”
Other Christmas activities that took place over the last week of term.
The infant department at Fernhill School were delighted when Santa paid a visit. On a day that was full of parties and other fun activities, Santa’s visit was the icing on the cake.
This year the S5 girls at Fernhill School excelled themselves when they put on a Christmas dance for the upper school. Complete with a glittering dance floor and an amazing array of Christmas decorations, the school hall was transformed into a fantastic dance hall. A great time was had by all.
Pupils also brought Christmas gifts to school which they beautifully wrapped as part of one of their house competitions before sending them off to St Dominic’s Parish in Craigend where they will be distributed to many children who might otherwise receive very little on Christmas Day.
This tradition has been running in the school for many years and every year the donation of gifts gets better and better.
Finally, in addition to their infant nativity, the upper primary and secondary pupils invited friends and family members of Fernhill School to a nativity and carol concert in St Mark’s Church.
