Lib Dem issues Nat warning
Tony Hughes, Liberal Democrat candidate for Rutherglen and Hamilton West has said voters should “think very carefully” about who to back in the general election.
He said although the SNP “would be heard” at Westminster, they would not form a coalition and would not be able to initiate any legislation.
Mr Hughes added: “On the other hand, Liberal Democrats are prepared to play their part in building a responsible and effective government.
“We will seek to enter into coalition with whichever party holds the greatest number of seats and become an integral part of the next Westminster government, able to deliver more powers for Scotland, more jobs, less tax, higher pensions and a fully funded NHS.”
Mr Hughes also focussed on his party’s green credentials this week, saying: “The Coalition has been the greenest government ever and Liberal Democrats will continue that commitment into the next parliament, putting the environment at the heart of government policy.
“We will pass five green laws to establish a permanent legal framework for a prosperous, sustainable economy.
“These will include a new legally-binding target for Zero Carbon Britain by 2050, to be monitored and audited by the Climate Change Committee and a requirement for all cars on the road in 2040 to be ultra low emission.”
