Kyle Thornton, Scottish Conservative

-

Glasgow South Conservative candidate Kyle Thornton has hit out over an election leaflet published by Labour candidate Tom Harris.

The Conservative tweeted his rival last week, after one of his supporters received a campaigning leaflet from the Labour man.

In it, Tom wrote: “As your MP since 2001, I led the local Better Together campaign for a No vote in last year’s referendum.

“Yet despite losing decisively, the SNP remain determined to fracture our nation, and rip Scotland from the UK.”

But Kyle tweeted: “Hi @ TomHarris4MP. Can I ask what local BT campaign you led in indyref, as you claim in letters? I don’t recall you leading a BT group...”

He told the Reformer: “If Tom Harris is concerned about the SNP, I would call on him to refuse to back a deal with the SNP as I have done.

“I’m concerned at him claiming to have ‘led’ efforts here in Glasgow South, when as someone who led the local campaign in Newlands/ Auldburn, I don’t recall Tom being in charge here.

“He played his part in the referendum but he didn’t lead the local campaign as he claims in a letter sent to Conservative supporters.”

Tom replied: “The referendum is history and nothing would be served by re-heating the arguments about last September’s referendum.

“I believe Kyle Thornton delivered some leaflets in Carnwadric and I’m very grateful to him for that.”
