Ewan Hoyle, Liberal Democrat

-

Liberal Democrat candidate for Glasgow South Ewan Hoyle says his party are committed to improving the environment.

He points to his party’s record in government with the Conservatives, saying they have pushed through important green legislation.

Ewan said: “One of the areas in which the Liberal Democrats have made an enormous impact in government is on the issue of climate change and the environment.

“It is not easy to make progress in this area when in government with Conservatives, but our government ministers have consistently ensured that the promise to be the ‘greenest government ever’ has been fulfilled.

“Renewable energy generation has nearly tripled in the last five years, and the Green Investment Bank is ensuring that renewable energy, recycling, and other infrastructure projects have the funding they require to get off the ground. Just last month the Green Investment Bank provided a £ 6.3million loan to Glasgow City Council to overhaul our street-lighting, making our lights twice as energy-efficient, and allowing the council to save money that can be invested in other services.

“It’s so important for worldwide progress on climate change and the environment, that the UK representative internationally is fully committed to progress on the issue. We have to hope that we can have a Lib Dem in that role after May, and we have to vote wisely to give that hope a chance.”
