Sessions set to Boss the Burgh

Springsteen tribute act at Town Hall

- Kenny Smith

The Springsteen Sessions are getting ready for a return to the Royal Burgh next week.

After a busy and productive 2014, which saw the band reach new audiences in Perth, Pitlochry, Carlisle and East Kilbride, the rockers are set for a busy 2015, including a return visit to Rutherglen Town Hall on Friday, May 8, at 8pm.

For four years now, this exciting and talented group of Scottish musicians have thrilled audiences across the country with their driving and dynamic versions of the very best of Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band – from the early albums like Greetings from Asbury Park right through to Wrecking Ball.

All the classics and the anthems are delivered with massive attention to detail, ensuring that the authentic sound of the E Street Band is delivered with the kind of intensity that is reminiscent of their early days at The Stone Pony in New Jersey, where it all kicked off for The Boss over 40 years ago.

The band is full of experienced musicians, many of whom are well known in music circles through involvement with other projects. Fronted by vocalist and harmonica player (The Boss) Dougie Robertson, the band consists of Cammy Maxwell ( bass/vocals), Miami Pete (guitar/ vocals), Tom Brogan ( sax/ guitar/ vocals), Gavin Paterson ( piano) and Gary Johnstone (drums)– all wellknown on the Glasgow music scene. The line-up is completed by Pete Clark from Edinburgh on organ/synth.

Band spokesman Pete Clark said: “We played at RTH in November 2013. The venue was sold out and the customers really got into the band in a big way, and that was the main reason why we were very keen to get back again.

“We have revamped the set since that last visit, and added a considerable number of newer songs, together with more of the classics that Springsteen fans would expect from a band that see their mission as producing authentic and accurate versions of the Springsteen songbook.

“We look forward to meeting a new group of fans of Springsteen’s music, and we are sure that they will go away more than satisfied with our performance.”

The band have made inroads south of the border as well.

Pete continued: “We played Carlisle recently, and the audience were mad for it, and we have a mini-tour in July, where we will play in Kendal, Reading and Bilston, Wolverhampton, together with headlining at Thunder In The Glens, the Harley Davidson Owners Rally in Aviemore in late August.

“In November, we are breaking new ground at the Dunfermline Alhambra, Greenock Beacon Arts Centre and St Andrews Byre Theatre. We are clearly doing something right!”

The Springsteen Sessions play Rutherglen Town Hall at 8pm.
