Rutherglen Salvation Army King Street will be holding Songs of Praise with united Churches on Sunday May 3, at 3.30pm. Everyone is invited to attend.

This week, until the evening of Thursday April 30, the twiceyearl­y textile collection takes place at King’s Park Church.

All donations of bedding (but not duvets, pillows or cushions), clothing, curtains, shoes, bags and belts will be gratefully received at the church between 9am and noon or 6.30 and 9pm, or can be collected on request. These items do not need to be in good condition as it is the fabric itself which is wanted; the money raised goes to church funds.

On Thursday April 30, the monthly Lunch Club takes place in the church hall between noon and 2pm. This continues to be a very successful venture with a good number of people taking the chance to enjoy a nutritious three-course meal for the very reasonable price of £3. New faces are always welcome to join.

This Saturday, May 2, King’s Park Church invites families to come along to take part in Messy Church, a fun time of games, arts and crafts, and yummy food. This is an opportunit­y to families to have fun together and so all children must be accompanie­d by an adult. Messy Church takes place from 4-6pm.

This month’s coffee morning in Rutherglen Old Parish Church will take place on Saturday, May 9, from10am until noon.

Tea/coffee and baking will be available at £2 per person, with all proceeds going to help those victims of the earthquake disaster in Nepal.

A spokesman said:“We shall be delighted to welcome friends old and new to help us raise as much as possible for this very worthwhile cause.”

The Rutherglen Christian Aid committee has thanked everyone who supported their concert, with Piggery Brae. It proved to be a great success.

A spokesman said:“Thanks to everyone who bought tickets and attended we raised £615 for the ongoing work of Christian Aid.

“Our next fundraisin­g will be our annual door to door collection, which will take place on Christian Aid Week, from May 10-16th, when we rejoice in the 70th anniversar­y of its beginning.

“We commence the week with a service in Burnside Church at 6pm on May 10, when we shall hear, first hand , of some of the work carried out by our charity.

“In the past, the folks of Rutherglen have been most generous in their giving, and we anticipate another goodly collection. Times are hard for some of us here, but every donation, no matter how little, will make a difference to those in dire straits.”

Burnside Blairbeth Church is holding a weekly Tuesday coffee morning with homebaking served in the gathering area from 10am-noon.

Cambuslang Parish Church’s community cafe continues to operate.

The organisers invite the local community to go along and enjoy a drink and a tasty snack in warm, comfortabl­e surroundin­gs each week.

It is held in the church hall at the Kirkhill building on Cairns Road. The cafe is open on Wednesdays from10am-noon.

Rutherglen West and Wardlawhil­l Church’s weekly friendship cafe offers a warm welcome.

The cafe runs every Tuesday from 10am-noon in West and Wardlawhil­l Parish Church in Western Avenue, with children welcome.

Stonelaw Parish Church is inviting the local community into the building. The Meeting Place door is open to every weekday.

Visitors can drop in, drink coffee, browse the range of Fairtrade products, and even select a second-hand book.

The idea of the Meeting Place is to provide an informal, comfortabl­e location, open to the whole community, for people to drop by without any obligation.

It is open every Monday to Friday, 10.30am-12.30pm, and also Thursday afternoons 2-4pm, and Wednesday evenings 7.30-9.30pm.

Flemington Hallside Church continues to welcome the public to its community cafe each week.

The cafe runs two days a week and is open from noon-2pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Flemington Hallside Church is located on Hamilton Road.

The Salvation Army in Rutherglen has a number of

Croftfoot Parish now holds two Sunday evening services each month. They take place on the second and fourth Sundays of the month.

A healing service will be held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm.

The church will continue to have the healing hour from 7.30-8.30pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
