“Building on the success of the Games at a local level, Cambuslang and Rutherglen Sports Council has been able to help many clubs and athletes by providing grants to sports clubs, and education grants to help support our local athletes.
“Our successful partnership working with Dennis Eyles, a student from the University of West of Scotland who has been working with the sports council over the recent months, is giving Dennis the opportunity to be involved in organising all of our big events.
“His internship organised between was the University of the West of Scotland and South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture.”
Liz also highlighted some of the events which the sports council had run, and highlights two in particular.
She said: “The sports council held a Free Fun Sports Sunday at Lifestyle in Eastfield was a great success, giving over 170 participants the opportunity to try new and exciting sports.
“Each sports taster session was run by coaches from sports clubs with Cambuslang and Rutherglen Sports Council. The event gave the partners the opportunity to showcase their sport and encourage children to participate in new activities.
“The highlight of the year was to celebrate and recognise our very own sports performers. The Sports Performer Awards 2014 were held in the magnificent Rutherglen Town Hall recognising the array of sporting talent within the Cambuslang and Rutherglen Area.”
Afterwards, Elizabeth thanked all the committee members for the hard work they undertake to ensure that the Cambuslang and Rutherglen area continues to grow and flourish in the sporting arena and they are looking forward to more successes in 2015. Latest winning numbers from the Clyde FC Supporters Trust lottery draw are 1, 15,18 and 23. There was no jackpot winner and eight shared the £250 second prize. The April 29 jackpot total now increases to £7000. Celtic Boys Club 2007, who train in Rutherglen, are looking for players to join their ranks. The club train at Stonelaw High School on Tuesday evenings and Thursday evenings at the Eastfield Lifestyle. To apply players must be born in 2007. The Jimmy Johnstone Football Academy are looking for players for their 2002, 2003 and 2004 teams. The club train at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre on a Thursday night.
