This month’s coffee morning in Rutherglen Old Parish Church will take place on Saturday, May 9, from10am until noon.

Tea/coffee and baking will be available at £2 per person, with all proceeds going to help those victims of the earthquake disaster in Nepal.

A spokesman said:“We shall be delighted to welcome friends old and new to help us raise as much as possible for this very worthwhile cause.”

The Rutherglen Christian Aid committee are getting ready to knock on doors in the Royal Burgh.

A spokesman said:“Our next fundraisin­g will be our annual door to door collection, which will take place on Christian Aid Week, from May 10-16, when we rejoice in the 70th anniversar­y of its beginning.

“We commence the week with a service in Burnside Church at 6pm on May 10, when we shall hear, first hand , of some of the work carried out by our charity.

“In the past, the folks of Rutherglen have been most generous in their giving, and we anticipate another goodly collection. Times are hard for some of us here, but every donation, no matter how little, will make a difference to those in dire straits.”

Burnside Blairbeth Church is holding a weekly Tuesday coffee morning with homebaking served in the gathering area from 10amnoon.

Cambuslang Parish Church’s community cafe continues to operate.

The organisers invite the local community to go along and enjoy a drink and a tasty snack in warm, comfortabl­e surroundin­gs each week.

It is held in the church hall at the Kirkhill building on Cairns Road. The cafe is open on Wednesdays from10am-noon.

Rutherglen West and Wardlawhil­l Church’s weekly friendship cafe offers a warm welcome.

The cafe runs every Tuesday from 10am-noon in West and Wardlawhil­l Parish Church in Western Avenue, with children welcome.

Stonelaw Parish Church is inviting the local community into the building. The Meeting Place door is open to the public every weekday.

Visitors can drop in, drink coffee, browse the range of Fairtrade products, and even select a second-hand book.

The idea of the Meeting Place is to provide an informal, comfortabl­e location, open to the whole community, for people to drop by without any obligation.

It is open every Monday to Friday, 10.30am-12.30pm, and also Thursday afternoons 2-4pm, and Wednesday

evenings 7.30-9.30pm.

Flemington Hallside Church continues to welcome the public to its community cafe each week.

The cafe runs two days a week and is open from noon-2pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Flemington Hallside Church is located on Hamilton Road.

The Salvation Army in Rutherglen has a number of clubs for kids running each week.

On Tuesdays, there’s Kids Alive! JAM (Jesus and Me). There are songs, crafts, games and a Bible story, from 5-6.30pm every Tuesday, for ages five-11 years.

Each Wednesday, there’s the Kids Club, for children aged five-11, which also runs from 5-6.30pm.

There’s fun, games, tuck shop and Sunshine Corner toddlers group, which meets every Tuesday morning, from 9.45-11.30am. It is open to all pre-school age youngsters.

Croftfoot Parish now holds two Sunday evening services each month. They take place on the second and fourth Sundays of the month.

A healing service will be held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm.

The church will continue to have the healing hour from 7.30-8.30pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
