Monroe takes on aliens

Following her break-out turns in The Guest and It Follows, Maika Monroe has been cast in a key role in sci-fi blockbuster Independence Day 2.

The 21-year-old (pictured right) joins returning stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and newbie Liam Hemsworth for Roland Emmerich’s sequel, due for release in June next year.

Sticking with females and follow-ups, studio Sony is reportedly planning a spin-off to its Jump Street franchise with two women following in the footsteps of Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill.
