Ken raises thousands of pounds for charity

- Jonathan Geddes

A Cambuslang runner was delighted after raising thousands of pounds for charity.

Ken McInnes, who stays in Brandon Gardens, took part in the recent London marathon.

And after completing the famous race, Ken’s been able to tally up how much he earned for the Arthritis Research UK charity - a whopping £4,150.

Before taking part in the marathon Ken told the Reformer he was targeting a time under three hours and 50 minutes - and he managed to achieve that feat, clocking in at three hours and 45 minutes.

He told the Reformer: “I finished the race, which was the main thing!

“I absolutely loved taking part, the whole experience was fantastic, including the organisers, the atmosphere and everything else.

“It was my best ever running experience - there’s something special about being cheered on by people throughout the whole race.

“At times I’d be hearing the cheers and be thinking ‘is there a celebrity behind me?’.

“Running past all the landmarks was special, like going past the Cutty Sark.

“I’d recommend doing it to anyone.

“It was all a bit different from my usual runs ( in the Scottish countryside), although they’re still enjoyable.”

Now Ken’s been able to total the amount of donations he earned for charity, and he was thrilled at the amount he pulled in.

He said: “The main reason for doing the marathon was to raise money for Arthritis Research UK, so I was really pleased with the amount.

“The support f rom people was really great and I appreciated tremendously.

“The hope is that it can make a difference - I know a number of people who have arthritis and the difficulties that it can cause.

“I believe the amount of combined donations to the charity from different runners doing the marathon was around £100,000, which is fantastic.”

Ken, who works as a property adviser by day, can still be sponsored by going to ht t p : / / uk. virginmoneygiving. com and searching for Ken McInnes.
