Get grow­ing for Ro­tary

Gar­den­ers will have a chance to buy plants for their gar­dens this Satur­day May (15) when the 113th (Burn­side) Scout Group hold their an­nual plant sale and cof­fee morn­ing.

The sale which will be held in the Scout Hall, Craw­furd Road, Burn­side, and will be open from 10 am un­til 1pm.

There will be plenty of Ruther­glen Ro­tary Club is seek­ing the help of Re­former read­ers who are keen gar­den­ers.

Mem­bers of the Ro­tary Club are plan­ning a plant fayre at the Abbey­field House com­plex on Stonelaw Drive, Ruther­glen, on Thurs­day, May 23, in aid of Abbey­field and other lo­cal char­i­ties, and hope green- fin­gered read­ers will do­nate bed­ding plants or other gar­den shrubs to help make this a real win­ner for ev­ery­one.

The event will run from ap­prox­i­mately 11am till bed­ding plants, bushes and ar­range­ments on sale to en­hance every­body’s gar­dens as well as a book­stall and tea room.

Group com­mit­tee mem­ber Jim Bolton said: “This is our an­nual plant sale and is ea­gerly awaited by gar­den­ers in the lo­cal com­mu­nity. It comes at a time when, hope­fully, the 1pm. Ro­tary Club pres­i­dent Ian Wil­son said: “We know there are peo­ple who just love grow­ing plants and if ex­tra items can be sold to oth­ers then th­ese funds can pro­vide sup­port for lo­cal good causes.

“This is a win- win sit­u­a­tion for ev­ery­one in our com­mu­nity.”

Any­one who can and would like to help should phone Ian Wil­son on 0791 367 1567 and dis­cuss with him what you can do to as­sist with their cause. prob­lems of frost have gone and gar­dens are ready to be filled up with plants for the sum­mer. All our plants are rea­son­ably priced and should suit all pock­ets.

“As well as sell­ing plants, we would wel­come any dona­tions to sell, as will dona­tions of home bak­ing and sweets for the tea­room and cake and candy stall.”
