Am­a­teur theatre groups from across the coun­try are show­cas­ing their tal­ent in East Kil­bride this week at the town’s an­nual one act play event, Rep Fest.

Known lo­cally as the ‘friendly fes­ti­val’, Rep Fest will see en­trants from East Kil­bride, Ruther­glen, Kil­win­ning, Dun­lop, Falkirk, Fin­try, Ste­warton and Greenock take to the stage at the town’s Vil­lage Theatre.

Each night sees a public ad­ju­di­ca­tion for each play as well as a pri­vate one for the in­di­vid­ual clubs.This year sees the re­turn of Jim Gibson as ad­ju­di­ca­tor, a task he first un­der­took for the Rep from 2002 to 2004. By popular de­mand he has re­turned for Rep Fest 2015 from his suc­cess at last year’s event.

Also this year will be a youth en­try from Dun­lop. This rel­a­tively new cat­e­gory is gen­er­at­ing a great amount of in­ter­est.

Prizes will be awarded for the fol­low­ing cat­e­gories: Best stag­ing; Best Ac­tor; Best Actress; First place play; Sec­ond place play; Third place play; Best Youth Play.

Promis­ing to be yet an­other year of qual­ity act­ing, au­di­ences will be treated to a wide range of gen­res in­clud­ing dra­mas and come­dies, with some writ­ten by lo­cal play­wrights.

Rep Fest kicked off last night (Tues­day) with com­edy Burning Is­sues from Ruther­glen Reper­tory Theatre Club and com­edy drama The Regina Mono­logues from North Ayr­shire’s McGavin Play­ers.

Tonight (Wed­nes­day) sees a per­for­mance by lo­cal tal­ent EKO Play­ers who will per­form the drama Till The Pe­tals Fall. Also tak­ing to the stage will be Dun­lop’s adult per­form­ers from Ayr­shire with drama Lucy In The Sky.

On Thurs­day Falkirk’s Tryst theatre group stage se­ri­ous drama The Locker­bie Bomber and Fin­try Am­a­teur Drama So­ci­ety’s co­me­dia del’arte The Path Of True Love.

Fri­day sees three plays staged with an­other per­for­mance by Fin­try – the com­edy The La­dy­birds; Greenock’s This­tle Theatre Com­pany’s drama A Gal­way Girl and the com­edy Bounc­ers from Ayr­shire’s Ste­warton Drama Group.

The fi­nal night on Satur­day, May 16, will bring a youth per­for­mance by Ayr­shire’s Dun­lop group – drama Fire­flies. And the closing play will be com­edy Er­ror Of Judge­ment by Ruther­glen Reper­tory Theatre Club be­fore the fi­nal ad­ju­di­ca­tion and prizes are pre­sented to the win­ners.
