Tal­ented Kirsty scoops £1000 prize

A tal­ent con­test held at a Ruther­glen pub re­sulted in a woman scoop­ing a grand prize of £1000.

The Sports­man Bar, lo­cated on Glas­gow Road, held a tal­ent com­pe­ti­tion last month which saw peo­ple from all over the Royal Burgh take part.

The en­trants were all male and fe­male vo­cal­ists. There was a big va­ri­ety of songs pre­formed which ranged from Michael Bu­ble, to Ri­hanna to Shirley Bassey

Owner of the pub John Vi­cars said: “We are al­ways happy to sup­port lo­cal tal­ent and our com­pe­ti­tion at­tracted some ex­cel­lent en­tries.”

The com­pe­ti­tion was judged by in­ter­na­tional record­ing artist Allan Jay, owner John and mu­sic events or­gan­iser Craig Har­man.”

The tal­ent com­pe­ti­tion took place on Thurs­day, June 18, and was pre­sented by Derek Dee.

The over­all win­ner was Kirsty Kennedy (30) who per­formed a se­lec­tion of songs by Ce­line Dion, Leona Lewis and Emeli Sandé.

Kirsty, who is ex­pect­ing a baby in Septem­ber, was de­lighted to have won.

She said:“The money couldn’t have came at a bet­ter time, thank you to Mr and Mrs Vick­ers at the Sports­man also a big thank you to Craig Kirk­wood of With Love Flow­ers for my beau­ti­ful bou­quet and well done to ev­ery­one who took part in this fab­u­lous com­pe­ti­tion.”

As part of the prize, Kirsty will also get her very own guest spot per­form­ing at the Sports­man on evening per week.

John added:“Kirsty was a wor­thy win­ner and we look for­ward to hav­ing her per­form again.”
