Rocker serves up first taste of follow-up album

- Ian Bunting

Popular Coatbridge singersongwriter Pete MacLeod has released the first track from his eagerly-awaited second album.

The musician has been working with renowned producer Youth - who lists Pink Floyd, The Verve and Primal Scream among his past collaborators – on the follow-up to debut LP Rolling Stone.

Kirkwood rocker Pete wanted to “craft an eclectic dance record” that showcased his unique voice and songwriting talent, and if the first single is anything to go by, he appears to have succeeded.

Song Minotaur is a perfect slice of chilled-out Balearic summer swooning held aloft by a thumping beat, and would be equally happy being played at a back garden barbecue or sunset party.

A delighted Pete told the Ticket: “The truth is electronic music is more relevant and more interesting than ever today.

“It’s where we are in 2015. People want to dance, and rightly so. That’s why we’re making this album.”

Pete is promising to “mix things up” with the sophomore effort and has already decided on a title, which he is keeping close to his chest.

He continued: “I’ve decided on the title for the album and it’s very appropriate and fitting to the songs, the sound and why I do music in general.

“Although I have written all of the songs on my acoustic guitar, it’s a different approach for me and I’m excited to let it loose.

“After 20 years of playing live and writing I felt it was time to literally mix things up a bit and I guess that’s the best way to describe what others can expect from this album when it is released.

“The whole experience of working with a legendary producer like Youth has been great and I’ve really enjoyed the process.

“Hopefully that is what others will hear when and if they press play and listen to the second album.”

Pete has also announced he will be playing a set at the Breminale Festival in Bremen, Germany, later this month.

He will take to the stage on Sunday, July 19, from 5.30pm and following the news, tweeted: “Delighted to announce I’ll be playing at this year’s Breminale festival in Germany.”
