Rutherglen Reformer

Coop a load of this

The comedy lives on ... just like that

- Jonathan Geddes

The life of one of Britain’s greatest comedians will be looked at in a new show heading to Rutherglen Town Hall.

The Tommy Cooper Show will take place on Friday, August 21, and will star Daniel Taylor, who’s performed in many West End productions.

The show is a celebration of Tommy’s journey from his days in the army right up to the height of his national TV stardom and the story is told by Tommy (Daniel Taylor), his wife Gwen ( Sharon Byatt) and his long suffering manager Miff Ferrie (TV’s Gaz Top).

The show brings Tommy back to ‘ life’, and was cowritten by Daniel.

“Tommy Cooper was given that wonderful and rare gift to make people laugh even if it was just by standing there,” he said.

“His comedy was innocent and appealed to all ages.

“His jokes will stand the test of time and will last for generations to come, as has been proven by the audience reaction to our show.

“He was also an incredible magician who worked tirelessly at his craft, especially when he purposely made the tricks go wrong.

“With regards to my interpretation - it happens ‘Just Like That!’

“As it has been mentioned many times before I simply aim to bring him back to life.

“The innocence, mania, the look and, of course, that infectious laugh of his - there will simply be no entertainer like him again.”

The show has been praised by various critics and Cooper fans, including being called “extremely funny... a tour de force” by Chris Bleach, the chairman of the Tommy Cooper Society
