Scares on the red carpet for Scott’s big premiere

- Ian Bunting

An Airdrie actor has taken on a chilling new role in a terrifying horror flick making its bow in Glasgow this week.

And movie fans can check out Scott Stewart’s lead performance in short film Yuriko at the open premiere in the Marriott hotel on Argyle Street on Thursday, August 6.

Burnfoot native Scott, 22, sets the scene for what scares await audiences in the fright-fest, telling the Ticket: “The film is about a diary of a girl named Yuriko that another character called Bruce brings back from his trip to Japan.

“Little does he know the diary is cursed and upon reading it, he unlocks the curse to bring it crashing down upon him and everyone around him.

“My character Ken is the main character in the film as it is centred around him discovering his friends’ deaths.”

Yuriko is directed by Tony Scott, who was impressed by Scott’s acting talents and chose him for the lead part.

Scott explains: “Tony has directed a lot of superhero-based films for festivals in Scotland and England.

“I knew him through a friend and after speaking to him at a networking night, heard he was casting and decided to send him my CV and recent footage.

“He felt I was right for the part after also seeing me in some of my past projects and even though Yuriko was produced very quickly and was a little tiring, Tony is really nice to work around and gets my sense of humour.

“Tony is currently working on a feature film called FLUX that I have been keeping in the loop with and it looks like this project is going to push his name further in the right direction.”

Scott added: “The premiere of Yuriko in Glasgow should be a very good night.

“I’m not a big fan of the more commercial suit and tie events but these are the ones the bigwigs go to so they are beneficial.

“There are two other films at the event being screened so I am looking forward to getting feedback and seeing the other projects.

“We all felt it was a good idea to hold an open premiere as we wanted people to come along and check out the film and meet the cast in a relaxed, friendly environment.”

Those interested in attending the premiere of Yuriko can pay at the door from 7pm and there is a smart dress code.
