Evening at the Tu­dor is a knock­out

A Cam­bus­lang pub held a fundrais­ing night for a lo­cal box­ing gym who are in fi­nan­cial dif­fi­culty.

The Tu­dor Inn, lo­cated on Hamil­ton Road, held a fundraiser last Fri­day (July 31) to raise money for Durie’s Box­ing Club of Ruther­glen.

As pre­vi­ously re­ported in the Re­former, the club, who op­er­ate out of Hill­house In­dus­trial Es­tate, who have over 200 mem­bers on their books, were in se­vere fi­nan­cial dif­fi­culty.

Coach Archie Durie had started writ­ing to busi­nesses to try and se­cure spon­sor­ship to save the club, which teetered on the brink over just a cou­ple of thou­sand pounds.

Liz White, who runs the Tu­dor, daugh­ter Tracy Foyer and her sis­ter Cat Foyer ar­ranged the night at short no­tice, which in­cluded a disco and karaoke with raf­fles and games.

The night raised £500 with the Tu­dor mak­ing a do­na­tion of £300 to take the to­tal to over £800.

Coach of the club Archie Durie said:“A Big thanks also to the May­hem Box­ing Babes for sup­ply­ing the lovely ring ladies to go round all night, adding that box­ing bit of glam­our selling raf­fles and tak­ing do­na­tions.

“To the Yard­leys for all their help in or­gan­is­ing the night and to Stephanie’s Spray Tan, Half­way Bowl­ing Club and A Wafer a Cone ya Nuggett, Spices, The Mecca Bingo and Carly’s the Butch­ers who all do­nated prizes. “Also thanks to ev­ery­one who at­tended.” The club are still look­ing for spon­sor­ship.
