Music school really knows the score

-

If music be the food of love, rock on.

The acclaimed Village School of Music in the heart of East Kilbride is celebrating the start of its new term and certain instruments and disciplines are proving extremely popular.

Students are flocking to sign up for lessons in violin, piano and drums – and ukulele sessions are also a big hit.

In addition, East Kilbride’s largest and longest-running music school offers lessons in keyboards, bass guitar, banjo and vocals.

It is exciting times for the music school’s rock club. Comprising mixed instruments – including drums, guitar, bass, keyboards and vocals – the club hopes by the end of this year to compile a CD, with proceeds going to the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research.

Rock club members learn how to arrange, play, perform and record some of the greatest rock and pop classics of our time.

The reputable Village School of Music has been running for some 10 years and offers tuition to musicians of all ages.

Director Jamie Finn, who has been playing drums since the age of seven, said: “As well as enthusiastic youngsters, we get people later in life who want to do something creative.

“They are fed-up sitting in front of a TV or computer screen, and instead want to learn how to play piano, for example.

“They may have found themselves in a bit of a rut and when you see their eyes light up it is amazing - a great release.”

Jamie, whose drumming skills have taken him around the globe, added: “No matter your age, you do not need to have your name in lights to be a successful musician. All you have to do is enjoy it.

“It is important, though, to gain the proper gradings and qualifications through theory, because they are your passport to the world.”

The Village School of Music is fiercely proud of every tutor it employs. Each is hand-picked, not only for their gradings, qualifications, experience and accomplishments but also for their personality, enthusiasm and ability to inspire.
