Busy week for Durie’s boxers
Durie’s boxing club in Rutherglen endured tough trips on the road this week.
Cassidy Todd travelled to Renfrewshire to fight local boxer Sarah Jane McDaniel on October 3 and it proved to be a cagey affair.
In the opening round both boxers were trying to work each other out but Cassidy came out in the second with a greater work rate and took the fight to the home boxer.
She did the same again in the third and forced her opponent back on several occasions using her jab, back hand to great effect.
When the final bell went, everyone thought that the Duries girl had done more than enough to get the decision but unfortunately it went the way of the home boxer by split decision.
Duries were also in action on the same night in Northampton in England against Kingsheath ABC.
They were represented by 44kg Chris Brown (14), 57kg Sohaib Mohammed (17) and Danny Burke (23).
Chris was in against English champion Ethan James and performed well but the bout went by the closest of margins to Ethan.
Sohaib Mohammed was in against another English champion Ryan Conway, and Sohaib boxed beautifully behind his left jab and back hand rights to win this bout comfortably by a unanimous decision.
Castlemilk man Danny Burke was up against English champion Noel Smith in the 75kg weight. Danny never got into his rhythm which allowed the Englishman to take the result by decision.
Club coach, Archie Durie said it was a good all round trip for the Rutherglen club.
He added: “All my boxers can be proud of themselves. Sometimes it doesn’t go your way but they always give 100 per cent.
“It wasn’t to be on the night but Cassidy can be extremely proud of her performance and hold her head up high.”
Durie’s boxing club have four fighters in the Scottish Novice Championships on Saturday October 17.
David Sherlin, Cassidy Todd, Shahzman Parnez and James Sweeney will all enter the ring this weekend.
