Janet Low is named as a Deputy Lieu­tenant for La­nark­shire

Janet Low of Cam­bus­lang was one of six peo­ple to be named as a Deputy Lieu­tenant for La­nark­shire that was com­mis­sioned by the Lord Lieu­tenant on be­half of Her Majesty The Queen.

They were wel­comed to their new role by Lord-Lieu­tenant Mush­taq Ah­mad OBE at a cer­e­mony in the Civic Cen­tre, Mother­well on Oc­to­ber 14.

Janet is a De­vel­op­ment Co-or­di­na­tor for the Hands On Project at Light­burn El­derly As­so­ci­a­tion Project (LEAP), which pro­vides sup­port ser­vices for older peo­ple.

She also works with lo­cal Brownie groups, in the Cam­bus­lang, Ruther­glen, East Kil­bride, Strathaven and Stone­house ar­eas.

Janet was named as Deputy Lieu­tenant along with Shum­ing Kong from Hamil­ton, Der­rick Han­nan from Air­drie, Li­aquat Ali JP of Both­well, Re­tired Colonel Stu­art Roberts and Mil­lar Stod­dart.

Mil­lar, from La­nark, is re­tired af­ter 41 years of ser­vice in lo­cal gov­ern­ment but works part-time as a sports reporter.

He is in­volved with the YMCA both lo­cally and na­tion­ally, is Chair­man of Cly­des­dale Sports Coun­cil and South La­nark­shire Dis­abil­ity Sport, and a Board Mem­ber of the Scot­tish As­so­ci­a­tion of Lo­cal Sports Coun­cils.

Lord-Lieu­tenant Mush­taq Ah­mad said:“I would like to con­grat­u­late the new De­pute Lieu­tenants, and I look for­ward to work­ing with them dur­ing their com­mis­sion in serv­ing the peo­ple of La­nark­shire.”
