Overtoun will flower after store donation

Perk up the park

- Douglas Dickie

Four hundred bulbs are set to be planted in Overtoun Park this Saturday.

Friends of Overtoun Park are holding a Perk Up the Park event to try and clean up the facility.

And Tesco Burnside have shown their support by donating 400 bulbs and 20 packs of seeds.

The entire community is invited to go to the park at 1pm to plant bulbs and pick litter.

The gift from Tesco was organised by Karen Jarvie from the Burnside store.

Friends of Overtoun Park said this week they were thrilled with the donation.

Chairperson Elaine Devlin said: “We have managed to purchase some bulbs from our fundraising but this donation has really boosted our supplies, its tremendous.

“Last year we had over 150 people coming to the park to plant bulbs and we quickly ran out.

“We hope more people will come out to support the group this year and so 400 extra bulbs will make a huge difference.”

Not only have Tesco donated bulbs and seeds but manager Mark Swan has also given the go- ahead for a group of staff to go down early to dig up the turf.

Friends member Eugenie Aroutchef said: “We cannot thank Mr Swan enough for sending volunteers to help dig.

“It takes a lot of time and effort to lift up areas of turf in preparation for bulb planting.”

Friends of Overtoun Park thanked Mr Swan, Karen, store staff and Tesco for these donations.

The company has supported the group over the last five years.

Perk Up the Park runs from 1pm–3pm. Take your own trowel if you have one.

Refreshments will be available.
