Proud to ac­cept Deputy Lieu­tenant post

A Cam­bus­lang woman is one of six peo­ple to be named as a Deputy Lieu­tenant for La­nark­shire. She has been com­mis­sioned by the Lord Lieu­tenant on be­half of Her Majesty The Queen.

Janet Low was wel­comed to her new role by Lord-Lieu­tenant Mush­taq Ah­mad OBE at a cer­e­mony in the Civic Cen­tre, Mother­well on Oc­to­ber 14.

She is a De­vel­op­ment Co-or­di­na­tor for the Hands On Project at Light­burn El­derly As­so­ci­a­tion Project (LEAP) and helps to pro­vide sup­port ser­vices for older peo­ple.

And now Janet will as­sist LordLieu­tenant Mush­taq Ah­mad with his du­ties in La­nark­shire.

Her du­ties will in­clude at­tend­ing cit­i­zen­ship cer­e­monies, spe­cial birth­days and po­ten­tial Royal vis­its in­clud­ing the Queen’s Gar­den Party.

Janet said: “I was ex­tremely proud to be given this hon­our. I was ap­proached by some lovely peo­ple eight months ago and I said I would be de­lighted to ac­cept. I couldn’t be­lieve it.

“I am so very happy , pleased and hon­oured to have re­ceived my com­mis­sion as Deputy Lieu­tenant and will be de­lighted to sup­port Mush­taq Ah­mad the Lord Lieu­tenant.”

Janet has been work­ing in the Cam­bus­lang and Ruther­glen ar­eas for more than 20 years.

She worked most of her life in bank­ing and her last po­si­tion was a cor­po­rate con­sul­tant for cash man­age­ment .

Janet changed her ca­reer path 20 years ago and started work­ing at Cre­ate Ltd a reg­is­tered char­ity, as a de­vel­op­ment of­fi­cer in the com­mu­nity cov­er­ing Cam­bus­lang and Ruther­glen area.

Cre­ate merged with Solve and H. E. K to form Vol­un­tary Ac­tion South La­nark­shire ( Vaslan) and Janet was pro­moted to team leader of the core team cov­er­ing all of South La­nark­shire .

She left Vaslan to work part time at LEAP Light­burn El­derly As­so­ci­a­tion Project who are a lo­cal Char­ity sup­port­ing over 50’s with handy jobs and be­friend­ing.

She is now a de­vel­op­ment of­fi­cer cov­er­ing Cam­bus­lang, Ruther­glen, East Kil­bride, Strathaven and Stone­house.

Janet was named as Deputy Lieu­tenant along with Shum­ing Kong from Hamil­ton, Der­rick Han­nan from Air­drie, Li­aquat Ali JP of Both­well, Re­tired Colonel Stu­art Roberts and Mil­lar Stod­dart.

Lord-Lieu­tenant Mush­taq Ah­mad said: “I would like to con­grat­u­late the new De­pute Lieu­tenants, and I look for­ward to work­ing with them dur­ing their com­mis­sion in serv­ing the peo­ple of La­nark­shire.”
