Bee Gees’ hits will just keep coming

- Shirley Bartynek

International smash-hit concert show The Magic of the Bee Gees – featuring all of their million-selling hits including Night Fever, How Deep is Your Love, Jive Talkin’and Massachusetts – is coming to Hamilton.

“No other British band has made as big an impact on pop music history,”says Martin Spooner, who plays Robin Gibb in the show.

“They shaped the sound of pop music in the sixties, invented disco with the soundtrack of the film Saturday Night Fever in the seventies and wrote careerdefining hits for many, many other artists.”

These include number one hits Islands in the Stream, Grease and If I Can’t Have You – recorded by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, Frankie Valli and Yvonne Ellerman respectively – which are all performed in the Magic of the Bee Gees concert show, described as the UK’s most authentic Bee Gees revue.

“Not only were the Gibb brothers prolific recording artists,” says Martin,“notching up a reported 220 million sales worldwide, they were master songwriters. Their music spanned three decades and their songs define pop music from a period that the world looks back on so fondly today.”

The stars of The Magic of the Bee Gees claim that everyone has a favourite Bee Gees song.

“Youngsters in our audiences,” says Martin,“who dance and sing along to the Bee Gees’classics performed, wouldn’t have been born when the Bee Gees originally released their hits.

“Yet they know every word of the majority of the songs.

“That,”concludes Martin, “underlines the genius and everlasting charm of Robin, Maurice and Barry Gibb – the greatest singer songwriters of our time.”

The UK’s No 1 live Bee Gees Revue will be performed on Thursday, November 26, at the Town House in Hamilton.
