Cambuslang Harriers show real girl power

Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers’ female members won the inaugural overall lady’s team trophy at the Lanarkshir­e Cross Country Championsh­ips.

The event, held in Coatbridge on November 21, saw the trophy awarded to the club which had the best overall score in five different age groups.

Kirsty Anderson and Lynn Angley won individual medals as well as joining up with Vicky Semple to win their race and the overall trophy for the senior ladies team.

The three women were delighted to secure the club’s first ever victory in the senior ladies race.

Eilidh Kennedy, Elysse Burke and Millie Nicholl combined well to take sixth place in the under 11 race while the under13 team of Carla Xufre Ray, Chloe Burton and Emily Watson finished fifth.

The under 15 trio of Christie Dalgleish, Lauren McEwan and Kelly McCutcheon took bronze.

While the males did very well across their age groups, Cambuslang did not finish an under 17 team which cost them the overall trophy.

Feargus McGregor was the third placed individual­in the under 11 event and he teamed up with Callum Young and Connor Scott to finisheigh­th in the under 11 event.The under 13 trio of Sean Friel, Geordon Davies and Michael Black took team bronze.

In the under 15 race, Christophe­r McLew was an outright winner and with good support from Ruairidh McGregor and James Hannoway, they secured a decisive team victory.

Under 17 athlete, Gavin Smith, continued his excellent recent form to win his age group race followed by Eamon Carr in seventh position.

Robert Gilroy in the senior race provided the club with its third male champion of the day as he comfortabl­y retained his title. The men gained team silver with the improving Justin Carter and the reliable Mick O’Hagan in support.
