Vandals target Westburn Nursery

-

A popular Cambuslang nursery has been targeted by vandals for the past two weekends.

Police are now calling on the community to keep an eye out for anything suspicious at nights around Westburn Nursery on Birch Drive.

And the head of the facility described the incidents as “mindless”.

An attempt was made to enter a hut facility at the nursery over the weekend between Friday, December 11 and Monday, December 14.

They managed to force the door open, but nothing was taken.

The weekend before that (December 4 to 7) another unsuccessful attempt was made to get past the door.

Westburn Nursery Head of Establishment, Angela Ferguson, said:“At Westburn Nursery we want our children to have the best start in life and we provide plenty of opportunities for children and families to come together to learn and play.

“Parents, children and staff are proud of their nursery which is at the heart of the community in Cambuslang.

“We wish to send a strong message to the people who are involved in this mindless vandalism of the loss and upset they are creating amongst children and families in their own community.

“If they saw children’s faces when they see they destruction and damage as they come into nursery, I hope it would make the perpetrators feel ashamed.

“We are asking members of the community to take a stance in helping to prevent acts of this kind and to report anything suspicious to the police.”

PC Greg Roberton of the Safer Communities Department, said: “We have received two reports of persons attempting to gain entry to sheds at Westburn Nursery. Local officers are investigating these crimes and I can assure the community that we will work to identify those responsible.

“I would appeal to anyone who has observed any suspicious activity around the nursery to contact us on 101.”
