Brown demands flooding action plan
A call for a review of plans to prevent and tackle flooding in the wake of the recent heavy rain has come from Rutherglen Liberal Democrat councillor Robert Brown.
Councillor Brown made his comments at a meeting of South Lanarkshire Council’s enterprise committee last week which was looking at a report on the council’s risk register and risk control action plan.
Councillor Brown received an assurance that further reports will be made to the council in the near future.
He said:“Everyone is fed up with the incessant rain we have had in recent weeks. This has also caused significant local flooding but fortunately not of the kind seen elsewhere.
“Cumbria experienced rainfall of 14 inches in a very short time, which caused hundreds of people to see their homes badly flooded and thousands without power. We have to plan against the possibility of such things happening in South Lanarkshire too.
“There is a major issue for central government to increase the available flooding for flood prevention, both to stop major floods and to deal with minor but damaging and inconvenient flooding such as that on Croftfoot Road.”
