Rutherglen Reformer

Make your own treats to share with loved ones this Christmas

Recycling can be great fun

- Staff reporter

R: evolve Clothing, funded by the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund and Clyde Gateway has had a fantastic year.

With swap shops now up and running on Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen and Hamilton Road, Cambuslang, it has saved over four tonnes of clothing from going to landfill by offering the community a space for them to swap their old unwanted clothing for something else completely free of charge.

Their make do and mend workshops have been a great success too with over 150 children and adults learning sewing, knitting and up-cycling skills from older people in the community.

In addition, 40 volunteers have come on board to share their skills and in the new year the aim is to take on more to allow them to operate longer opening hours in the shops.

Please note that both the Rutherglen and Cambuslang R:evolve Clothing shops will be closed from Tuesday, December 22, 2015 to Tuesday, January 12, 2016,

Every month the Rutherglen Reformer features fantastic upcycling projects that everyone can have a go at.

This month is its Christmas special where it shares with you fancy gifts and special treats for you to make and share with your loved ones this festive season.

We hope you have fun with them and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and happy new year from all the staff and volunteers at LEAP and R:evolve Clothing.
