Thought for the Week

-

Who or what do you rely on?

What keeps your head above the water when the waves of life are crashing all around you?

Many of us rely on our own strength and guidance but on too many occasions that’s never enough for the difficult and hurtful things this world throws at us.

I vividly remember that during my training as a minister I led a funeral service for a family who obviously were distraught at the death of their very loving and loved husband, father and grandfather.

At the graveside I was very concerned about what could only be described as wailing and their reluctance to leave the cemetery.

On reflection if I thought that this world was all there was and I was never going to see my family or friends again then perhaps I would be as distraught as they were.

I have been very fortunate to have been introduced to a man who offers streams of life giving water.

This man knows everything about me and he still loves me.

This man goes out of his way to remind us how much his father loves us and cares for us.

This man although totally innocent of any crime, willingly died in our place, dying so that we can be forgiven.

This man Jesus Christ, having died 2016 years ago still offers us life giving water today and every day, where we will never be thirsty for power, prestige, possessions, popularity, or personal pleasure again but offers us eternal life through believing in him.

Why not come, see a man who told me all that ever I did, and he loves me just the same?
