March with the mods at Gangsterville 2016

- Andrea O’Neill

Like-minded local rockers will band together for a second year in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.

Gangsterville returns to Greenhills Community Centre in East Kilbride this September with performances from the town’s top rock bands: Rat Patrol, Sux Pastels, The Cherry Reds and Skaledonia.

Last year’s inaugural Clashthemed event raised a whopping £8000 for the charity while raising awareness of the plight of teenage cancer victims.

Organisers Brian Byrne (Skaledonia guitarist) and Murray Dalglish (Sux Pastels drummer) said this week they are aiming to smash last year’s total.

Brian told Lanarkshire Live: “It was an amazing success last year and sold out really quickly.

“There was a temptation this year to move it to a bigger venue but, with the support of businesses and individuals, we hope to top the £8,000 raised last year.

“We have had some pledges of really cool stuff for the raffle and will be looking in the coming months to get as many local business involved to support such an excellent cause and for people on the night to have a great time.”

The fundraising gig is inspired by March of the Mods, a national fundraiser run and supported by a collective of like-minded fans of Mod music who host events throughout the month of March for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Supported by the likes of The Who, March of the Mods has raised thousands of pounds for the charity.

Seven young people are diagnosed with cancer every day.

Teenage Cancer Trust help create world-class cancer services for young people in the UK, providing life-changing care and support so they don’t have to face cancer alone. Skaledonia will play March of the Mods at the Bungalow in Paisley with Esperanza and Fudgie McFadden in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust on Sunday, March 27.

Gangsterville – named after a Joe Strummer song – is now an annual East Kilbride event.

This year’s fundraiser takes place on September 16 from 7pm till late.

DJ Large will also be spinning some tunes throughout the night.

Tickets are on sale now priced £8 and are available from hashtagmanagement.bigcartel.com/ or from the bands directly. For more information visit www.facebook.com/gangstervil leScotland68/?fre f=ts:/
