Rutherglen and Hamilton West MP Margaret Ferrier is campaigning for the release of three young men who are due to be executed in Saudi Arabia.

Ali al-Nimr, Dawoud alMarhoon and Abdullah alZaher wer sentened to death for crimes carried out when they were juveniles.

They were initially due to be executed in January.

Ms Ferrier wrote to the Prime Minister on the issue last week.

Mr Cameron responded that it had been raised “at a very senior level” and he was confident the three men would not be executed.

Ms Ferrier said: “I remain sceptical until they have been released from prison.

“They are currently being held in poor conditions and with little contact with others or the outside world.

“I am currently pursuing a meeting with the minister for the Middle East, Tobias Ellwood, in order to raise the conditions of their incarceration.”
