Fig­ures re­vealed last week show that over 1,100 cou­ples tied the knot in South La­nark­shire last year.

There were 1,096 op­po­site sex mar­riages and 72 same sex mar­riages, with one fe­male civil part­ner­ship.

The fig­ures were re­leased by The Na­tional Records of Scot­land and also in­clude the num­ber of births and deaths.

And a break­down of the pop­u­la­tion shows there are 653,310 peo­ple liv­ing in La­nark­shire, 315,360 peo­ple liv­ing in South La­nark­shire and 337,950 in North La­nark­shire.

South La­nark­shire has 151,790 males (48.1 per cent) and 163,570 fe­males (51.9 per cent).

The fig­ures de­tail the es­ti­mated pop­u­la­tion of La­nark­shire on June 30, 2014.

From June 30, 2013, to June 30, 2014, South La­nark­shire’s pop­u­la­tion rose by 510 (0.2 per cent) from 314,850 to 315,360.

Pro­vi­sional fig­ures for births, deaths, adop­tions, mar r i a g e s a n d civil part­ner­ships reg­is­tered dur­ing 2015 were also re­vealed.

There were 3,185 live births in South La­nark­shire – with 1,640 baby boys and 1,545 girls. There were ten still­births last year.

Across South La­nark­shire there were 3,496 deaths last year – 1,600 males and 1,896 fe­males.
