Figures revealed last week show that over 1,100 couples tied the knot in South Lanarkshir­e last year.

There were 1,096 opposite sex marriages and 72 same sex marriages, with one female civil partnershi­p.

The figures were released by The National Records of Scotland and also include the number of births and deaths.

And a breakdown of the population shows there are 653,310 people living in Lanarkshir­e, 315,360 people living in South Lanarkshir­e and 337,950 in North Lanarkshir­e.

South Lanarkshir­e has 151,790 males (48.1 per cent) and 163,570 females (51.9 per cent).

The figures detail the estimated population of Lanarkshir­e on June 30, 2014.

From June 30, 2013, to June 30, 2014, South Lanarkshir­e’s population rose by 510 (0.2 per cent) from 314,850 to 315,360.

Provisiona­l figures for births, deaths, adoptions, mar r i a g e s a n d civil partnershi­ps registered during 2015 were also revealed.

There were 3,185 live births in South Lanarkshir­e – with 1,640 baby boys and 1,545 girls. There were ten stillbirth­s last year.

Across South Lanarkshir­e there were 3,496 deaths last year – 1,600 males and 1,896 females.
