Spring into ac­tion in school hol­i­days

Easter ar­rives this week­end and the school hol­i­days fol­low soon af­ter.

Par­ents should not worry, though, be­cause there are sev­eral things to take the wee ones to through­out Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang.

Here are five things worth look­ing out for over the next few weeks..

Cuningar Loop will be open ev­ery day from Fri­day.

Full de­tails on what the new wood­land park of­fers can be found else­where in this week’s pa­per but this week­end of­fers up a tree dress­ing event, cel­e­brat­ing the roles trees play in our lives, as well as wil­low weav­ing, sto­ry­telling, felt craft and green wood work­ing.

The daily op­tions at the park will in­clude an ac­tiv­ity zone which in­cludes a bike skills park, boul­der­ing park, ad­ven­ture play and wood­land work­out area. It is open ev­ery day. On Satur­day there is an Easter eggstrav­a­ganza in Over­toun Park from 1pm-3pm, when Friends of Over­toun Park are promis­ing fun for all the fam­ily.

The free event will in­clude an Easter egg hunt, Easter egg paint­ing, a bouncy cas­tle, face paint­ing and an Easter bon­net pa­rade.

Wed­nes­day, April 6, Castlemilk Park will host an Easter Bunny hunt from 2pm-4pm.

As well as the hunt through the wood­lands, there will be arts and crafts, games and duck races along the burn.

Chil­dren should be ac­com­pa­nied by an adult and en­try is free.

There will be a pair of pup­pet shows in Ruther­glen Town Hall on Wed­nes­day and Thurs­day, April 6 and 7, at 2.30pm.

‘Moon­beam On A Cat’s Ear’ is based on the book by Marie Louise Gay, and is about two chil­dren, a cat, a mouse and their ad­ven­ture when they steal the Moon from the sky.

It is ac­com­pa­nied by an orig­i­nal mu­si­cal score.

‘ Elves and the Shoe­maker’ is about a poor shoe­maker who has only one pair of shoes left and not enough money to pay his rent.

With the help of two mis­chievous elves, he makes some un­usual shoes that are very much ap­pre­ci­ated and he re­wards the elves in re­turn.

Tick­ets for the shows are £6 for each per­for­mance.

From April 4- 15 Pro­ject 31’s Spring Fling will take place at var­i­ous lo­ca­tions.

It sarts with arts and games at Cam­bus­lang Parish Church on April 4 and con­tin­ues through to a for­est school at Holmhills on April 15.

Other events will be tak­ing place at Whit­law­burn, Ruther­glen United Re­form Church, West­burn, Spring­hall and Over­toun Park.
