Spring into action in school holidays

- Jonathan Geddes

Easter arrives this weekend and the school holidays follow soon after.

Parents should not worry, though, because there are several things to take the wee ones to throughout Rutherglen and Cambuslang.

Here are five things worth looking out for over the next few weeks..

Cuningar Loop will be open every day from Friday.

Full details on what the new woodland park offers can be found elsewhere in this week’s paper but this weekend offers up a tree dressing event, celebrating the roles trees play in our lives, as well as willow weaving, storytelling, felt craft and green wood working.

The daily options at the park will include an activity zone which includes a bike skills park, bouldering park, adventure play and woodland workout area. It is open every day. On Saturday there is an Easter eggstravaganza in Overtoun Park from 1pm-3pm, when Friends of Overtoun Park are promising fun for all the family.

The free event will include an Easter egg hunt, Easter egg painting, a bouncy castle, face painting and an Easter bonnet parade.

More information can be found at www.friendsofovertounpark. info.

Wednesday, April 6, Castlemilk Park will host an Easter Bunny hunt from 2pm-4pm.

As well as the hunt through the woodlands, there will be arts and crafts, games and duck races along the burn.

Children should be accompanied by an adult and entry is free.

There will be a pair of puppet shows in Rutherglen Town Hall on Wednesday and Thursday, April 6 and 7, at 2.30pm.

‘Moonbeam On A Cat’s Ear’ is based on the book by Marie Louise Gay, and is about two children, a cat, a mouse and their adventure when they steal the Moon from the sky.

It is accompanied by an original musical score.

‘ Elves and the Shoemaker’ is about a poor shoemaker who has only one pair of shoes left and not enough money to pay his rent.

With the help of two mischievous elves, he makes some unusual shoes that are very much appreciated and he rewards the elves in return.

Tickets for the shows are £6 for each performance.

From April 4- 15 Project 31’s Spring Fling will take place at various locations.

It sarts with arts and games at Cambuslang Parish Church on April 4 and continues through to a forest school at Holmhills on April 15.

Other events will be taking place at Whitlawburn, Rutherglen United Reform Church, Westburn, Springhall and Overtoun Park.
