- Jonathan Geddes

This week the Ticket is looking ahead to the Easter holidays.

There are several great shows coming up across the region so here are four of the best to see.

Thursday, March 31 - Saturday, April 2: Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr, East Kilbride Village Theatre

Community based drama group Vertigo Theatre will bring their version of Disney classic ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to East Kilbride next week.

The brainy Belle is hoping to escape her small town life and her brutish suitor Gaston, only to become a prisoner of the mysterious Beast in his castle.

Expect dancing dishes, menacing wolves and singing furniture in Vertigo’s production.

Sunday, April 3: Kid’s Magic, East Kilbride Arts Centre, £5

Popular magician Douglas Cameron has brought his array of tricks and illusions to several venues across South Lanarkshire over the years.

He is back with some astonishing antics and he will need some assistance from audience volunteers to show his wonders.

He may even turn one of them into a rabbit (but not for long).

The show is suitable for ages three and upwards.

Wednesday-Thursday, April 6-7: Moonbeam On A Cat’s Ear/Elves and the Shoemaker, Rutherglen Town Hall, 2.30pm both days

A double-header of puppet plays. ‘Moonbeam’ is about two children, a cat, a mouse and their adventure when they steal the Moon from the sky. ‘Elves and the Shoemakers adapts the famous Brothers Grimm story.

Both shows will use beautiful puppets to tell stories that should capture the imagination of youngsters.

Friday-Sunday, April 157, The Gruffalo’s Child, Hamilton Town House, £11

Following hot on the heels of ‘The Gruffalo’s monstrous success comes ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ - with attitude. Just how brave is she?

This show is based on the hugely popular children’s book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

It is all about how the Gruffallo’s child decides to disobey her dad and go out in the snow and should delight

youngsters.
