Amnesty for air weapons

-

A three week surrender campaign has been launched for anyone who owns an air weapon but does not want to licence it.

With the introduction of the Air Weapon and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 a surrender campaign will run until Sunday, June 12, to surrender weapons to the police.

The move comes after new rules will make it illegal for anyone to possess an air weapon without a licence under the Act which comes into force from December 31, 2016.

Prior to this date, any individual or group has six months to either obtain a certificate or surrender their weapon(s) to the police.

Under no circumstances should anyone take possession of, or remove any air weapon from a disposal site.

In every case, Police Scotland should be contacted to attend and safely handle and remove any air weapons to a police office.

For more information and how and where to surrender your weapon please go to the Police Scotland website http://www.scotl and. police. uk/w hats-happening/ air weapons/
