Cup game could be slip-up for Glencairn

- Murray Spooner

Glencairn gaffer Willie Har vey admitted that tonight’s Central League Cup tie at home to Larkhall Thistle is a potential banana skin.

With an injury-hit squad, the Celsius Stadium boss knows he’ll have to field a weakened team and it may give the Central First side the advantage.

To add to The Glens’ dilemma, the under-21s, who have featured in the senior team regularly throughout the season, have a West of Scotland Cup final at the weekend.

And Harvey may want to leave them out of the squad to prevent them from picking up any injuries.

“They’ve got the cup final on Saturday so it wouldn’t be fair to them to play them and for them to pick up an injury,” Harvey said.

“Larkhall have a good manager, good players, who are very pacy, and they could cause us problems at our park if some of the boys are tired.

“It’s a banana skin but if I had a full compliment of players I would have expected to beat them.”

Glencairn finished their season off with two games against top four opposition.

A draw at Clydebank was followed by a 4- 1 defeat to Kilwinning Rangers that ended their season and a run of thirteen games in six weeks.

The Glens will be keeping an eye on the Cumnock Juniors v Cumbernauld United result tonight to see if they will end the season in the top half of the table.
