A shy Cambuslang girl has been named the ‘cutest kid in Scotland’ as her mum says competing in beauty pageants has brought the youngster out of her shell.

Teighan McCafferty was crowned the winner of the mini cutest kids category last month at only her third ever pageant.

The seven year old impressed judges after modelling two dresses - one made out of newspaper - and speaking to them about her efforts to fight bullying in an interview round.

The St Charles Primary pupil was gifted a family holiday to Majorca as her prize.

But mum Natalie McCafferty says Teighan’s new found confidence is the priceless gift beauty pageants have given her.

Natalie, who lives in Drumsagard with husband William and children Morgan, Teighan and Marco, said: “I’m super proud of her. I can’t believe it.

“Teighan was very shy and that’s why I put her into the pageants. It has brought her out of her shell and she’s turned into a confident wee girl who wants to help others.

“It’s not really about beauty, it’s about what’s inside and helping others.”

Teighan joined Models and Pageants UK Ltd last year and has been signed up to model at Glasgow and Aberdeen fashion weeks at the start of 2017.

And the youngster has been learning more about the charity supported by Models and Pageants UK called United Together.

A movement that fights cyberbullying, racism and discrimination, United Together has taught Teighan about the importance of being a good citizen and equality.

Natalie added: “Pageants involve a lot of charity work so we are raising awareness of the United Together fund. It supports families and provides counselling services to children who have been bullied and adults as well.

“I have spoken to Teighan about how people get discriminated against because of their colour, how kids tease each other and I have explained that we don’t do that, that everyone gets treated the same no matter how different they are.”

Natalie and Teighan will be completing a sponsored walk for United Together on June 26 when they will be joined by friends and family in walking three miles around Glasgow City Centre.

Teighan, who loves swimming and dancing, is also looking forward to taking part in more pageants in the near future.
