Park fun isn’t hindered by weather
The Friends of Cambuslang Park may have had to move their recent fun event indoors - but it didn’t stop a great time being had by all.
The original plans for the day were to be outside, but concerns over the weather saw it shifted inside to Cambuslang Parish Church’s hall.
Ironically the weather then brightened up after the decision was made, but the group’s chairman, Edward Cais, felt the switch didn’t hamper the fun of the day.
He said: “We had a tombola, new and secondhand stalls, hair spraying, which was very popular, temporary tattoos and cake decoration.
“There was a game of skill where, if you bounced your ping pong balls right, they landed in a cup and you won a wee prize.
“At another stand, there were giant playing cards where it was more a game of luck as to whether you guessed correctly whether the next card drawn would be higher or lower than the previous one.
“There was a raffle where you had to choose a card which had the beginning of a sentence on it: either “I like the park because.....” or “I wish.....” and you then wrote something you’d wish for the park.
“Katie-Beth was the lucky girl whose card was drawn and she had written: ‘I like the park because there’s a big roundabout that I can play on with my friends’.
“Meg’s marvellous cakes went like the proverbial hot ones too!
“The big balloons were a hit, too.
“Although a modest sum of around £250 was raised, the families who came along clearly enjoyed themselves, and we also received an expression of interest from at least one visitor about joining the Friends, so all in all, we were quite pleased with the day’s efforts.
“A big thank you to all those who came along, including our most stalwart supporter, Councillor Russell Clearie.”
Next up for the Friends is an event that is always great fun for the wee ones - the Teddy Bears’ Picnic.
It will take place on Wednesday, July 20 between 10.30am and 12.30pm in the park.
