Pub tribute as friends remember Steven, 23

Brother stunned by death

A Rutherglen family are mourning th the death of a brother who died su suddenly on Thursday morning, Ju June 9.

Steven Hanley, 23, (left) was found at his ho home in Greenhill Court at around 10am.

The former Trinity High School student, wh who had lost both his parents, was described as a very popular boy by friends paying tribute to him.

A family friend said: “Steven had a tough life. He had his problems when he was younger. “His friends and family are devastated. “I had a lot of time for him, he was a very popular boy.”

Steven was affectiona­tely known to his

friends as ‘ Phil Mitchell’. A regular at Harleys Sky Bar in Rutherglen, he was well known by staff and customers and was remembered with a special DJ set on Saturday night.

DJ JY played all of his favourite songs as locals raised a glass to their friend.

Earlier, the DJ had posted on Facebook: “Gutted, nothing you can say, but when you see everyone tagging Phil Mitchell and saying things I can’t help but laugh. People that don’t know us will be thinking we are all nuts tagging Phil Mitchell from Eastenders. That’s the kinda person Steff was, great sense of humour, RIP mate.”

His brother, Michael posted a family picture hours after Steven’s death with hundreds of friends and family commenting.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “At about 10am on Thursday, June 9, the body of a 23 year old man was found in a flat in Greenhill Court in Rutherglen. There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstan­ces and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
