Brother stunned by death

A Ruther­glen fam­ily are mourn­ing th the death of a brother who died su sud­denly on Thurs­day morn­ing, Ju June 9.

Steven Han­ley, 23, (left) was found at his ho home in Green­hill Court at around 10am.

The for­mer Trin­ity High School stu­dent, wh who had lost both his par­ents, was de­scribed as a very pop­u­lar boy by friends pay­ing trib­ute to him.

A fam­ily friend said: “Steven had a tough life. He had his prob­lems when he was younger. “His friends and fam­ily are dev­as­tated. “I had a lot of time for him, he was a very pop­u­lar boy.”

Steven was af­fec­tion­ately known to his

friends as ‘ Phil Mitchell’. A reg­u­lar at Har­leys Sky Bar in Ruther­glen, he was well known by staff and cus­tomers and was re­mem­bered with a spe­cial DJ set on Satur­day night.

DJ JY played all of his favourite songs as lo­cals raised a glass to their friend.

Ear­lier, the DJ had posted on Face­book: “Gut­ted, noth­ing you can say, but when you see ev­ery­one tag­ging Phil Mitchell and say­ing things I can’t help but laugh. Peo­ple that don’t know us will be think­ing we are all nuts tag­ging Phil Mitchell from Eas­ten­ders. That’s the kinda per­son St­eff was, great sense of hu­mour, RIP mate.”

His brother, Michael posted a fam­ily pic­ture hours af­ter Steven’s death with hun­dreds of friends and fam­ily com­ment­ing.

A spokesman for Po­lice Scot­land said: “At about 10am on Thurs­day, June 9, the body of a 23 year old man was found in a flat in Green­hill Court in Ruther­glen. There do not ap­pear to be any sus­pi­cious cir­cum­stances and a re­port has been submitted to the procu­ra­tor fis­cal.”
